A November garden update
Our nascent Stone Soup Garden rests with three beds ready. Rye cover crop grows that can be pulled out or tilled in anytime to make way for plants. A cute and chubby Little Scarecrow watches over. Who do we have thank for that?
One bed will be used for garlic. Garlic is a bulb planted in the fall by putting individual cloves a couple inches deep and covering with mulch. Each clove bears a scape in June and a full garlic head by July when the leaves start to die back.
Sounds like two other beds are spoken for in the spring.
Now, for the wishlist.
1. A sign! Any group that wants to take that on would be great! We need one by spring. I've had luck doing signs with little kids with non-toxic paint and then spraying it over with enamel for outside use. Let me know if anything is in the works . . .
2. Weedwhack around the beds and fence one more time before winter.
3. Fill the 4th bed with soil so it is ready for a gardening inspiration to strike.
And for the record, there is room for more beds and for potted plants, should there be interest!
